Hi everyone. I also expirienced the same problem during the installation as concern the "hdlist not found" error. I try to format and install Mandrake7.2 again a few times but no luck.
The PC is a PII with two ATAPI HDs were I create the appropriate partitions. Root, swap, export and temp in the first HD and usr in the second.
The first time it presented when the installation of packages occur and when the larger amount of them was already installed. Then without any reason the error occur and the installation returned me in the format option.
The other time the problem occured every time I was defining the different partitions.
Any ideas are more than welcome... :smash:
I tried a lot of things in expert mode Or recommended,
For the partition, manual, recommended, proposed, expert...
I tried to install all pakages, or nothing
And after the pakages installation always this error:
Hdlists not found.
If I rebooted the PC, the mounting point were lost
/, /home, /usr...
What I did to solve it:
I dowloaded the version 8.1 and It worked.
I read a lot
about it, about installing the games, about trying until it works..
I suppose by the way that the CD quality is more linked to this problem.
I got that error with Mandrake 8.0 & 8.1.
I managed to get around it on 8.1 by repeatedly installing from scratch (5 or 6 times) & praying till I didnt get the error cos someone told me they got around it the same way, persistance.
Acid's right though, I wouldnt bother with 7.2, get a more up to date version of Mandrake, there's a big difference between 7.2 & 8.1, I havent seen 8.2 myself.
Well I think that I found the problem (in a way). I finally manage to install it BUT with the default packages i.e for the server.Whenever I try to install it with manually selected packages I get this error. I can't say that this is the solution but it's a hint for further research.

Well, I lik MDK 7.2. I'v got a nice server on it. The difference is maybee bigger for desktop machines...
