I just bought a new printer so I could print using linux, cuz my old canon couldn't........I bought a lexmark Z605 cuz they said it would work with Linux.
I downloaded the driver off of their website, and whenever I try to install it I get this error message:
yzrider210@linux:~> rpm -ivh z600llpddk-1.0-1.i386.rpm
error: z600llpddk-1.0-1.i386.rpm: MD5 digest: BAD Expected(1a7dca0ba6c70df81c42299898081c59) != (e8a63905aab0897141ec5cc1a445854a)
error: z600llpddk-1.0-1.i386.rpm cannot be installed
maybe you can try downloading it again, purely for the reason that the last time something could have screwed up, and if it still doesn't pass the checksum, then if you want, you could possibly throw in the --force argument. i mean its not like its coming from a third party site, so i can't see the harm in it, but its up to you.
btw, lexmark has terrible support when it comes to linux. they have lots of drivers on their site, and believe me that don't mean they work. so good luck trying, and hope ya succeed ;-0
Do a search for printers and checkout Linuxprinting.org. AFAIK, HP's and Epson's have excellent linux support. My all in one (PSC 2110) worked pretty much out of the box.
answers:
question1: --force is self-explanatory
question2: basically anything non-lexmark ;-) i mean i am a fan of lexmark myself, but sadly they aren't very easy to get working.
if you wanna stick with lexmark, go to www.linuxprinting.org and browse through the printers and see which ones have the highest success rate and go from there.
I have never had so many problems as i have had with this lexmark printer. If anyone knows a compatible driver i can use please help. If you know of a simple download i would appreciate it...
