have glibc 2.3.1, yet flash installer says it's <2.2

I'm trying to run the flash plugin installer, and it says my glibc version is less than 2.2, but running /lib/libc.so.6 gives me:

I have slack 9.0, i just downloaded dropline gnome 2.2 and am using it instead of kde. it was after i installed gnome that i began to get the glibc error. does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?
