hardware removal through OS

Fedora core 5
(the Background)
DFI Lanparty mobo has sata, sata raid, and IDE standard; as three seperate chips, I believe this is causing confusion because, my DMESG is giving me grief about not finding an IDE cd-rw I unplugged and removed; So I could use my Sata DVD-RW without conflicts.< this issue of conflict between cd-rw and dvd-rw has been resolved, however-
(the point)
I never told linux that I was going to use the old cd-rw as landfill. allthought DMESG is complaining less,, DMESG is still expecting sr0 back?
(the question)
what program, conf file, or alteration to kernel mod will I have to perform favors to, to get linux off the idea of cd-rw coming back?
