Hardware Acceleration - your system is currently running without video hardware acceleration

I run Mint 20 Ulyana as my operating system (love it) with windows in a VM.
It seems slow and I get the acceleration message all the time.
Beachboy2 suggests installing MATE (in another thread). After looking at all the threads relating to the problem, this sounds like the best solution. Can I just do this without upsetting all my installed software and the VM? Is it worth it?.

By any chance have you explored the Mint Forum for an answer. To get you started, you can look at this thread: Nvidia-340 driver crashes cinnamon.

As a low probability of success suggestion (assuming that you are attempting to use the NVIDIA drivers), disable "secure boot" before installing the NVIDEA drivers. That sort-of solved my problem of no hardware acceleration. I get a bunch of error messages at boot-up, but after booting the NVIDEA driver appears operational.

^ Steve R., how can you give such specific advice when we do not know anything about OP's setup yet?
Although the advice to look on Mint forums surely isn't wrong.

Dunnyman, please show us some output:
Code:

lspci -k

What virtualization software are you running? If it is VirtualBox have you installed guest additions?
