Hard Disk Related error in Linux


Hi ,

I am running with the redhat linux 2.1 on the server . And we are getting the below error in the dmesg command output.

Can you please let me know whether these errors are threatening to Hard disk. Or The hard disk is in Ok state.

Cant say exactly but it could be because of bad superblocks or drive would be failing?
did you tried fsck by unmounting the drive?
**Note to backup your data before doing anything, if it would be a drive failure.

That's a very old version of RHEL and hasn't been supported for years. Current ones are 5.9 & 6.4.
If that is the original disk, I'd certainly suspect its dying.
I'd advise making several backups asap.
You could try the smartctl tool if it exists for RHEL 2.1.
If you reboot the system, it'll likely want to fsck the disks.

First backup your data. Then run a SMART long test:

smartctl -t long /dev/hda
wait for it to finish and post the results:
