Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Ok this should probably go under server or something, but i'm putting it here because i'm hoping it can be found easier by the genious who is going to fix it.
I have a RedHat 9 server which i am using to run a Halflife Server (126.96.36.199) and Day Of Defeat.
I ran this server successfully and had a few people playing on it, then my ADSL line got cut of f (a regular occurance, but that is a diferent story)
Ever since i have not been able to start up the server, it gets so far (see below) and then hangs
Auto detecting CPU
Using AMD Optimised binary.
Auto-restarting the server on crash
Protocol version 46
Exe version 188.8.131.52
Exe build: 18:21:32 Jul 29 2003 (2469)
WON Auth Server
Server IP address 127.0.0.1:27015
Downloading Security Module from Speakeasy.net ...
Can't register variable mp_chattime, already defined
Completed downloading Security Module from Speakeasy.net
Server is in Secure Mode.
couldn't exec listip.cfg
couldn't exec banned.cfg
If i type exit, it will look like it has added the first 3 Master servers.
I cannot see this server from the LAN or the Internet, i have also tried running a straight Halflife server and a CS server. All do the same.
I start this with the command
./hlds_run -game dod
or something a little more complicated such as
./hlds_run -game dod +ip 192.168.254.12 +maxplayers 16 +map dod_anzio
I know that my router is set-up right as it was working.
Please Please Please can somebody help, this is driving me crazy
Wonderwally, I had that same problem after a steam update. I had to reinstall to get it working again. Now I keep a backup of my hlds_l directory to fall back on when Steam F@%&s it up. Try a reinstall sorry..
