wget authentication fails
 

I am trying to set up a cron job to automatically carry out antivirus software updates, but am having trouble persuading wget to work as I'd like.
I connect through a proxy and this seems to be quite happy on standard pages, but as soon as I try to connect to password protected sites using '--http-user=' and '--http-passwd=' I get a '404 Not Found' error.

I can't find any setting in 'wgetrc' to turn this type of authentication on, and I have tried taking the firewall down to no avail. Also, I can access the site I want through mozilla.

Any ideas please?
