There seem to be a problem with Opera 9.25 and flash. Download the .deb file from here and download Opera 9.50 Beta. cd to the directory you downloaded it in and run "sudo dpkg -i opera_9.50b-20071024.6-shared-qt_en_i386.deb"

That will install Opera. Then, if you haven't done so already, download flash from here

Untar it and then run " sudo cp /<direction to untarred flash folder>libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/opera/plugins"

Now start Opera and go to a site that needs flash and see if it works.

Let me know.

By the way... My colleague just used Bill Gate's face in the news paper to clean the window! Lol!

what you did wrong was you downloaded a deb file I told you to down load the source file opera.25xxxx tar.gz and also the flashplayer9.tar.gz you will not be able to uninstall with synaptics but they can all be upgraded the same way.

the flashplayer installer will say it dosnt work with opera but that is a left over from opera 9.24. untill flashplayer up dates it's installer this will be a problem for all the debian synaptic systems. but you do not need to to put it in the /usr/lib/opera to have it work opera looks at all the plugins from the other browsers. so when you are using the flashplayer-installer you type /usr/lib/firefox or /user/lib/mozilla NOT! /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins ok because the installer just needs you to tell it where the file is then it will look to put it in plugins folder you must have 9.25

Drakeo, this is what I did as you asked. Please tell me if I did something wrong... First, I downloaded opera 9.25 to my desktop and then I untared it (I guess, "unzipped" it in laymen's terms) to the desktop. When I untared it, 3 files spewed out onto the desktop: control.tar.gz, data.tar.gz, and debian-binary. I then opened up a terminal by pressing alt and F2. I entered 'sudo ./install.sh' then pressed run. Nothing happened. I then went to Applications and got a terminal that way and entered the same command. I got the following error:

x@xxx:~$ sudo ./install.sh
sudo: ./install.sh: command not found

OK, what am I doing wrong?

Also, check this website out and see if it's a good way of installing flash player and opera:

Drakeo, let me know if I'm doing something wrong with your instructions on how to download and install opera and flash player.... Thanks!

BTW, this is my post from the other thread on which I never heard your reply. Hope that's ok to do.

Post Just to clear things up OPERA + FLASH

I know my answer is a year late but I hate the idea that every time I check out Internet forums most answers are darn wrong and utterly miss the point.

Using flash in Opera (most versions) is quite simple.

1. Download the latest flash player (tar.gz) compressed file format and unpack
i.e.,
Code:
tar xzvf libflashplayer-10.0.32.18.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz
[b]2.[b] Copy the file libflashplayer.so wherever you want. Preferably $HOME/.mozilla/plugins where it can be found by mozilla alike browsers. Here $HOME is a system variable which points to /home/your_user_name directory.

3. Run Opera and go to TOOLS -> PREFFERENCES -> ADVANCED -> CONTENT and inside content click on the button PLUG-INS OPTIONS. There you should ADD the new path $HOME/.mozilla/plugins and that's it.

Opera will use flashplugin the next time if you followed correctly this steps. You can even tell it to FIND NEW PLUG-INS (after the path were you put the plugin was added) and it will be recognized immediately.

What we have done so far was: Creating a directory for our plug-in and make Opera recognize it.

PS:// Just remember not to abuse sudo (as suggested above) you should not use sudo for external or extraneous things. Your system can be compromised that way!!.

PS2:// When you get the expertise please try to support free/open/gratis projects like SWF and GNASH or even try them to help testing at least.
It is very important to preserve our freedom of usage and choice overall. http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/
