I am just testing out Fedora LiveCD so I went to
System>Administration>Printing and I selected new
Then I chose my printer and followed the prompts.
The installation did one more thing that is not too obvious.
I placed a ppd (postscript printer driver) in
/etc/cups/ppd directory specifiying the name of the printer.
Then I went to the package manager and did a search for gutenprint.
It installed the Gimp plug in and the Cups gutenprint stuff and a bunch of supporting files.
Hope this helps
