guideline coverting multiple avi's

Hi,

I am trying to get some tips to solve the following problem:

i have u linux debian etch-server where i downloads movie torrents with
rtorrent in a screen session. Then i manually transfer all downloaded
avi files to my win desktop and i download the srt (subtitle) files
and then i use convertxtodvd to convert and burn my dvd's.

What i want to do is to write a shell script to convert multiple avi's
to dvd and to add the subtitles on my linux server and write them to
a iso file.

I can burn those iso files on my win machine.

Is there anybody out there who has a solution to convert multiple avi's
automatically?

Thank's in Advance,
Arthur
