GUI H.264 converter for Ubuntu

Hi all,

Do you know a GUI H.264 converter for Linux? I used to convert my AVI files using ffmpeg. But I need to download the ffmpeg from source everytime I upgrade my OS since Xvid is not supported. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10. Why don't Ubuntu include xvid support on their ffmpeg package?

Is there a GUI that can convert avi to H.264 format so I won't download the ffmpeg source again? Thanks.

Yes but I don't see H.264 option preset. Only for PSP..I think that's different for Ipod's.

It supports X.264 which is the open source version of H.264. Just like the mpeg2 format (dvds) you have to have it properly formated (size and FPS) to run on certain equipment.

Have you tried the medibuntu repository?
Code:
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ gutsy free non-free
It has many multimedia packages including ffmpeg with compilation options which were disabled in Ubuntu due to legal reasons or open source policy re-enabled. See some differences between original Ubuntu and Medibuntu options:
