gui for nautilus,gedit....etc not working in root mode


Hi everyone

i am using fedora 7.
when i tried to open a text file in gedit in root usermode from terminal i am getting the following error..
i was able to open it previously .i.e even yesterday..but now iam getting error
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

cannot open display:
Run 'gedit --help' to see a full list of available command line options.

even for nautilus iam gettinf same error

PLEASE TELL ME THE CAUSE FOR THIS ERROR AND HOW TO RESOLVE THIS ERROR

well, if you are not in a GUI, you cannot use graphical programs. Try running those from your graphical login instead of a terminal.

thanks for ur quick reply

I think u have not understood my query.so iam explaining in detail
i have logged in as a normal user..
i used to do things that require root access in terminal like editing fstab/menu.lst...etc
prviously i was able to open these configuration files in gedit by typing the follwoing in root terminal
gedit /etc/fstab

but now i am getting error for this command

i even cant open a nautilus window from root terminal which i was able to do till today afternoon

Obviously something has changed. My guess would be an update of your Windows manager.

You might try # gksu gedit /etc/fstab ... among about 10 other ways I can think of that might fix it on Debian. Don't know much about current Fedora though
