gtk-2.0 messing ???

hi u all ,
do any body know what is the meaning of this out put ...

containing `gtk+-2.0.pc' to
the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gtk+-2.0' found
configure: error:
Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0) not met;
consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

and how to add this package to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH ???

You need to install the gtk2 development libraries.

OK ... i could understand this , but the point is that i do have gtk installed on my machine ..
