GRUB vanish after install WIN

I have three OS installed in my computer.

1. Win XP (/dev/hda1) ..........FAT 32
2. Fedora Core 3 (/dev/hda7)...........EXT3
3. Slackware 10.1 (/dev/hda6) ........... EXT3

In /dev/hda1 there was a previous install of Win ME and I replaced it right now to Win XP by formatting the partition.

How to retrieve my GRUB back which will reflect my previous installation of Fefora and Slackware with this new Win XP?

Windows has it's on boot loader, and you cannot tell win not to install it's bood loader - which i think is just *bleep*

you should still have your /boot/grub/menu.lst or /boot/grub/grub.conf file
if you reinstall grub that should do the job.
#grub-install /dev/hda

do make a backup of your bootsector first though - just in case :-)

i hope that you've made a boot floppy befor installing winXP
becouse your MBR was revriten while you have installed the XP

Thank you very much for your response :-) , okay....... I am going to start with back up the boot sector first. Would you please tell me, how to take the back up?

The second question is that, your answer indicates that, I should enter into root prompt, but as I do not enter into any of my Linux Systems how do I get the root prompt? I do not have a boot floppy :-(

ok - have a look at downloading gibraltar2.0 from gribraltar.at
that will give you a good linux enviroment to rescue your sytem.
i dont know out of the back of my head on how to get your boodsector backedup but search on www.google.com/linux for 'backup bootsector' or 'dd hda' (dd is the command you would use to take a backup of your bootsector)

from a gib. booted sys you could mount your partitions in the correct order, and chroot into you enviroment and run grub-install from there (not sure if this will work)

or have a look at knoppix or any other live-cd's

If you have the Slackware 10.1 install CD, pop it in, boot from it, and read the on-screen instructions on how to boot your Slackware system using the kernel on the CD. Once in your Slackware system, you can reinstall grub.

(Presumably you can "rescue" Fedora in a similar way, but I know very little about Fedora.)
