grip tool cdparanoia cant access my cd drive ?

hey guys, are there any other cd ripping tools i could configure grip to use ???

well why can't it access it? cdparanoia is by far the most common tool and should actually work no problem. try running cdparanoia from the command line, and see what is says.

/dev/cdrom exists but isn't accessible. By default,
cdparanoia stops searching for an accessible drive here.
Consider using -sv to force a more complete autosense
of the machine.

ok, try running it as root. if that works then you should be able to change the permissions on the cdrom itself to allow anyone to access it. "chmod a+r /dev/cdrom"

yeah, cd rom is set to allow every1 access.

but i used the other format

chmod 777 cdrom

and i cant even rip cd's as root. so i dont think its an access violation

Perhaps you need scsi emulation.

add a line like:

hdc=ide-scsi # where hdc is your cdrom

to your grub.conf or lilo.conf to be passed to the kernel at boot. If you use grub it would be like this:
title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-14)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-14 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi

This is just a guess though....did you use -sv like cdparanoia asked?
