grip and shorten encoding

Hi All,

I'm a newbie here, so please pardon my ignorance if this solution is really simple.

I'm trying to copy a live CD of mine and convert it to .shn files to post on my ftp. I've downloaded the RP M of shorten and read the man file, but it's a little above my head. Using grip for ripping and encoding, I've attempted to set up shorten as an option for encoding. Here's the settings I'm using (even though I know that they are wrong):

Under the encoding tab (under the configure tab)
Encoder: other
Encoder execuable: /local/bin/shorten
Encoder command line: shorten -c (I got this from the man, even though I don't know what it means)
Encoder file format: ~/shn/%A/%d/%n.shn (I just modified the default settings here and substituted shn for ogg)

Your help is most appreciated. This is one of the last steps for me to be free from the M$ machine!
