Graphics compatability

I have an older computer with an ATI Radeon 7000, and every time I try to change the graphics settings, my computer freezes. I am running OpenSuSE 10.1 on an 800Mhz processor with 192MB of RAM. I have tried everything I know, which isn't a lot, but it still won't work. ANY help would be nice.

When you say graphics settings what are you referring to? the colours of stuff or the res/colour depth? if it's the latter you can modify your xorg.conf and reboot?

I am talking about the resolution settings. They are currently 1280 x 1024 and trying to reset them freezes the computer.

By the way, I have tried xorg.conf and it didn't work. Anything else you can think of?

Are you trying to go down or up? Higher may not be supported.
