Angry gpsdrive "mapfile could not be loaded" error

Whenever I download a map into gpsdrive via the download map feature, it donwloads, then gives me the error of "mapfile could not be loaded". I've tried to manually import them but I get the same error. I looked at the maps with an image viewer, and they're valid maps. I also checked the permissions and they're fine. I've been stumped for ages and I've got no idea what the problem is.

I finally solved the problem by running gpsdrive as root. everything works now, even though I shouldn't be doing it. Hope this helps someone else who has the same problem.
