GParted running under Linux Insert repartition taking days to run!

I'm trying to repartition a 40GB disk using GParted, running under Linux Insert, and it has been running for 24 hours and is at 57%. Why would it take so long? Would appreciate any help. Trying to get a clean install of Ubuntu.

check your hardware

do check your harddisk and see if that is working properly, is it fully supported. you might have to turn of dma or some other thing. test it.
Is the kernel log or any other log returning any errors?
