how do i partition the drive on which my os is installed using gparted.
when i click on resize, the gparted does not allow me to resize/move the partittion.I m using the gparted app not the .iso .

You can't, gparted precludes it. Use the iso.

You can't modify a partition which is mounted and if you are using GParted from and installed system, that will limit what you can do. Anything you want to know about GParted is at the site below which is the Manual.

You should boot with a live linux system. You can for instance download
SystemRescueCD, install it on a USB flash drive, boot from it, launch gparted
and select your hard drive (most likely, /dev/sda)

the ISO file is much easier,quicker and a better option.

The iso takes up hardly any space on my 1TB external storage drive and boots on the lowest spec gear I have ever seen or used.
