I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean that you must write a script to install the components you listed?

Gotmail Query

I got all of the above installed with help from a downloaded help file (see below) ,however, Im not confident in executing it::::::::::::can you take me through it ?:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Configuration

The easiest way, in my humble opinion, is to place all directives in one script and start everything from a cron-job.

I'll give you an example of my script.

/usr/local/src/gotmail/gotmail.pl
-u myhotmail
-p stupidpasword
--proxy proxy.myisp.com:8080
--folders "Inbox"
-f johndoe
--only-new-messages
--mark-messages-as-read

The first line speaks for itself, it just starts the Perl-script.
The - u directive tells GotMail which Hotmail-account it should use and according to this, with - p you can send your password.

Did you dowload the rpm for gotmail? I just tried it and it installs with out problem. Now I don't have a hotmail account to try it out on however I typed gotmail at the command prompt and it listed all the command line options necessary for retrieving ones mail. All you need to do is play with the command line a bit. Open up an x=term and run gotmail at the prompt it will then list the needed options, like how to specify password and username...etc. Now after you find all the commands you need to enter at the command line to sucessfully download your mail. open your favorite text editor and

#!/bin/bash

#a bash script for retrieving my mail

gotmail -u Jeff -p my_password ...etc (include all the options it took to get your mail).

then save the file as my_mail.sh

then when you want your mail simply open a terminal window and type my_mail.sh [ENTER]

viola you've got mail.

You could write this in Perl but it is not necessary and the script example is not written in Perl it is a simple shell script. Play around with it a bit and if you run into trouble post back. My wife has a hotmail acct. She is a work, but if you get really stuck I'll try to hack out a script for you and see if we can get this working, but you'll learn a ton about linux if you at least give it a try first and post back with problems. And disregard the cron-job thing from the example for now, that is just a way to get it to work on a schedule, we'll get to that, first let's retrieve your mail.

Hi BigNate..first up ,thanks for your kind assistance on this one.....

Secondly, yes I did download the RPM from gotmail and installed it with no problems, along with all the other required modules, it was just this bit with the Perl script which threw me,however, in the meantime I `ll approach it with your methodology and let you know.

Thanks again

Jeff
