Google Earth
I've been trying to install this (Debian Lenny, AMD64) but it can't find libxml2.so.2 and libSM.so.6 Both exist but I can't find a reference to them in the script, so they must be in the tarball enclosed. Does anybody know where it might be looking for them, or a way to separate the tar from the rest of the script and look in there? It's my guess that it's set for Red Hat layout.
BTW, an aside here, there's no Java plugin for AMD64 but it works without with Konqueror - up to a point but not well enough. Any cures? |
How are you trying to install google-earth?
What is the exact error message? Java for AMD64 http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install..._java_on_amd64 ... now tho core JAVA is GPL, we should see some accelerated development for 64-bit platforms. The cure is: wait for the ports - or contribute to projects. |
Can't remember the exact error message offhand but it says that it can't find those two libraries. The installation is a shell script runnable from command or from KDE. I've looked into the script but there are no named libraries or paths in there and it expands an enclosed tarball. So all the detail must be in the tarball. So I can't find where it might be looking for these libraries.

Emerson is suggesting that you create a debian package for google-earth and install that. This is actually the best approach as it means the debian tools will know it's there.
When reporting errors, the exact message is vital - presumably you can reproduce the fault? Need to know the package name as well, and where you got it. But there's no need as you can follow Emerson's link instead. |

Press Return to close this window... I just summarised it to avoid the effort. An yes, these libraries are with all the others. so I go back to asking like I did before, is there some other library apart from /usr/lib that it might be looking for them in? |
I have the same problem with this. I'm running Lenny on "amd64" architecture (core 2 duo).
When I try to use the googleearth-package I run make-googleearth-package and get what looks like decent output at first, then a whole lot of Code:
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: couldn't find library libIGGfx.so needed by ../usr/lib/googleearth/libIGSg.so (its RPATH is ''). So, I'm stuck whichever way I try to solve this. The package maker fails (as shown above), and GoogleEarthLinux.bin doesn't run correctly: Code:
:~$ sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin Hello :-Lightinthedark |
