Google docs not opening in Firefox/Slackware

Hi all,
I installed Slackware 12.1 and FC8 on my Dell Inspiron 1525. In my Firefox browser (, I can't open Google docs in the .doc format but can open .xls files just fine. I installed Google gears but that hasn't helped. All I get when I open a .doc google doc is a screen with the toolbar and I can't even click on any of the buttons (they are not active).

But in Sea Monkey browser on my Slackware, I can open google docs (.doc and .xls). Is there any other plugin I need to install to my Firefox so that I can open .doc google docs?

Thanks in advance.
