Google Chrome OS ID

When I browse any sites with Firefox, if I go to download something and they support it, they detect that I'm running Debian or Ubuntu and link me to a deb by default. When posting here it shows the logo for your distro. If I use Google Chrome however, I get links to tarballs, and my distro here just shows "Linux". Is there a way to modify the way Google Chrome identifies what OS it's on to websites so I can have similar results?

What most sites look at is your browser's user agent string. You can see your Firefox string in the "help >> about" menu, for example.

I really have no idea about how to modify it in Chrome, but I found this link. Apparently they offer a command-line option you can use to set it during startup.

I also found this interesting page that breaks down the various elements of a user agent string you give it, starting with the one your browser is using, apparently.

And of course there's always Wikipedia.
