Good alternatives to KPPP and KGet?
I'm wondering if there are any alternatives to KPPP and KGet that are as good or better. The reason for this is I don't use any of the programs provided by the kdenetwork package (with the exception of the two mentioned).

I personally found that the command line wget tool is way better than the kget.
As for KPPP can't help you here, if you just want to use it for dial up modem then the ppp command line again is cool. |
I found some alternatives - gwget and Gnome PPP (which is nearly identical to KPPP). Unfortunately, Gnome PPP says it cannot find my modem. I tried running it with sudo, and it found my modem. It seemed to work, showed that I was connected, but nothing actually worked.

You may have to have KDE installed to get kget and kppp. wget and gwget work just fine. About your modem, have you checked the HCL? Is it a winmodem or an external real modem with its own processor? Anyway check and see if the modem is compat with *nix. http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/ |
