Gnucash 1.8.8, a personal finance software, helps you to manage your asset. To use it, you must understand the following terms:
asset: things that you have in you hand
liabilities: things that you borrow from the bank or your friends (liabilities are included in your asset)
equity: asset minus liabilities. Equity can vary in value with time without any change in the balance sheet
mortgage: a conveyance of a property as security for the payment of a debt
