I'm a Linux newb, I figured I'd give it a shot now that my Windows insallation went down in a ball of fire... again. I have installed Red Hat 9, all the updates, and everything was working grand. I tried to install Xine, and had some issues with it, so I decided to remove all of the Xine files and try another installation. Worked great! Until I logged back in. The screen that shows the progress of loading the desktop sticks on Metacity Window Manager for several minutes, then finishes as normal. Unfortunately, once the desktop is loaded, things go whacky. I can load programs and stuff, but the border with sizing, moving, maximizing, minimizing, etc is just gone. Whenever I load a program, it stays on top of the others, regardless of which window is active. I can no longer switch between desktops with the little taskbar thingy. Maybe I deleted a library for Gnome? I reinstalled the XFree86 and Gnome libraries to no avail. Anybody have a clue how to fix this? Thanks in advance.
