Gnome Wont load after video card driver change

Ok, this is a complete n00b question...but...

First a brief history of this issue.

I am running Fedora Core 2 and have an ATI All In Wonder PRO AGP.

I was attempting to get the TV Card aspect working, when I noticed gnome had my vid card listed as the RAGE PRO2, rather than the AIW card. So I changed the vid driver in the control panel (thingy)...and rebooted.

Upon rebooting, system complained that video card was not the correct one ( I have the logs still if you need to see them) and I replaced the xorg.conf file with the backup.

Rebooted again....this time I get an error about my mouse. grrrr. Ran through the configurator to no avail (about 4 different times).

SO I get the idea to login as root and try to start KDE (usually use gnome) and it didnt work...So i manually start gnome...it worked just fine.

So i logout, and try to login as myself to gnome, and it didnt work.

To make a long story short, went in as root, and deleted all the config folders in my home directory...and now I can get into gnome again.

However, I was wondering what would have caused the two issues, and how can I get my TV functions to work? (software wise I am using TVTime).

Thank you very much.

Have u tried #xorgconfig ????
[ When u said back-up file did you mean the previously working one ??? ]

U might wanna try this....

[Please back-up before u delete anything...]

delete the stuff in /tmp dir

and the .Xauthority files [Do this --->#locate .Xauthority to get the location of the files]

Yeah, the previously working one...I deleted all the files (after zipping them)
