Gnome Terminal Backspace Screen flashing problem!

Hi,
I just upgraded to slackware current x11-6.8.1.

At first, I got a keyboard XKB problem during gnome startup. At this time, if you open an empty gnome-terminal and press the 'Backspace' key on the keyboard in an empty line, the whole screen flashes, if you press n times then it flashes n times. (The same happen if you us TAB for auto-completion in gnome-terminal)

Then I got rid of the XKB activation error during the gnome-startup... however, the screen flashing problem remains!!

The strangest thing is the other users on the system and root hasn't got this problem! Only my daily account has this problem.

Can anyone please tell me how to solve this problem?

TIA!

Hi and welcome to LinuxQuestions!

You're using the visual bell as opposed to the regular audible bell. Instead of hearing a beep sound when the bell goes off - as when you have and incomplete auto-completion or when trying to backspace when there's nothing to backspace into - you see the screen flash. I like it that way, but that's just me.

Open your ~/.Xdefaults file if you have one. You have probably specified xterm*visualBell (or something else visualBell). Comment out that line by putting a pound character at the start of the line, save it, start a new Gnome Terminal and give it another try.

It might also be set somewhere else - I don't know where Gnome Terminal stores its settings but have a look around in your preferences.

screen flash or screen blinking

Hi e_liming
Simply go to
Preference --> Sound --> System Beep, then uncheck (Visual system beep).
I hope this would be helpful.
write me back...
