Gnome panel error will not go away!

Hi,

I am getting the following error: The Application "gnome-panel" has quit unexpectedly. I have 3 choices:

1-Restart application. Doing this gives another error screen that says: I've detected a panel already running, and will now exit. I can only click on ok, and then it comes back about 10 times, and finially goes away but the original error remains.
2-Close: Doing this simply brings back the error.
3-Inform Developers: this start "bug buddy" application.

My gnome panel is completly not working but the desktop is fine. I have tried reboot 2 times, and the error always comes back. I am running FC4.

What can I do? Thank you

Also, I found this command on another thread: killall gnome-panel. Doing it just brings the same error twice!! However, i am able to log in as root and the gnome-panel is no problem with no error message..

i had a similar problem, i fixed it by deleting my /home/me/.gnome directory
kinda radical, but the problem went away after that.

i had .gnome .gnome2 and .gnome_private, backup all of them, then i deleted them, reboot, the error message was still there however i could close it this time!! i had no panel but i started the terminal and type in gnome-panel, it started but it was missing files, so i put the .gnome directories back, reboot again, and all is back to normal!!

thank you for your help
