Question gnome keyboard error

Hi

I have got the weirdest error in gnome. just setup a box to run some virtual machines. when i try to write anything on the screen it seeems like the keyboard repeat rate is to high, but it is erratic. sometimes it looks like this: eexxaaaaaammmmpppppllle. And sometimes it works okay.

I tried to unmerge gamin. and emerge famd. this made me able to type. but anything i typed did not show up until the next time i moved the mouse !?

i am running gentoo 2006.0 and have tryed xfce and gnome. next thing will be KDE, but i would prefer to just run gnome or xfce.

I have got inotify enabled in the kernel (the notes says it should be and it is)

in xorg.conf have only got:

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Keyboard0"
        Driver "kbd"
EndSection
I hope someone else have seen this and maybe know how to fix it.

thanks in advance

This is SO frustrating! I've tried i8042.nomux with psmouse.rate=40 with no luck

vmware

The Machine i was having these problems on was running vmware (same symptoms for server and player) I am pretty sure it was vmware causing it. In the end i figured out that the keyboard problem only occured when input had been captured by one of the virtual machines running on the desktop.

I scrapped the gentoo box and have made a custom compiled xen 3.0 box instead from debian unstable (properbly took me 4-5 days to get it right and smp is STILL not working like i want it to ;-)

Its running pretty stable now though. Couple of oracle servers and whatnot on a athlon64 x2 w. 4 GB RAM.

regards

Brian
