GNOME , KDE help

I'm using RH 8.0 and want to learn how to configure GNOME. and KDE. When I go into gnome-help it mentions menus that I don't have in my startup menu.

I've found kcontrol to deal with KDE ... is there something like this for GNOME.

Any links or help you can provide on configuration GUIS or config files would be appreciated. thanks.

As a side note why doesn't kcontrol come up when i type 'apropos kcontrol' or 'info kcontrol'?

You can launch the GNOME Control Center with the command gnome-control-center.

When I use the command gnome-control-center, all I get is Nautilus in preferences:///
The only time I can get the "real" control center is by the menu Application -> Multimedia -> Sound. Any idea how to get to it another way? I like Gnome for is simplicity of design, but making simple changes seems to be a hassle. I also do not even have a Settings menu. Many Linux sites, with advice on making changes to Gnome, point to the Settings menu. Any idea on how to get this menu to show up? Thanks from a
