Gnome 2.6.1: Single Click acts like Double Click

Hi!

My post got rejected because I tried to post an URL and using my browser's back button my post went away. So here I go again:

I downloaded UserLinux (h++p://userlinux.com) and installed it without experiencing any problems. It comes with Gnome 2.6.1. I use VMWare to test out various Linux Distributions because I do not have any other possibilities to do so. I used VMWare with Suse, Redhat, a "real" Debian (UserLinux is more or less a custom debian installer) and even Knoppix. Everything was fine, but with Gnome here every short single click acts like two single clicks effectively turning it to a double click. With short I mean the duration of the time I hold down the mouse button. If it's really short, just like tapping it, it acts like a double click. I literally have to force myself to hold it down a bit longer than usual to prevent this. This is systemwide, meaning it does not just happen with files or folders, but everywhere. Menues get instantly closed because of the second click, I can even turn on the light bulb in the mouse settings with a single click.

I did not have the time yet to rule out vmware as a possible cause, because I lack time and knowledge to install and try out KDE or any other window managers.

I did not find anything related to this with google, in the vmware forums or in this forum. At the end of this month I will have the possibility to install this distribution on a PC and will not have to emulate one, but for now I was curious so I am asking.

I'm quite confident that there is some mouse-configuration tool for gnome. Try to find it and tweak the double-click settings.

Actually there is one, but the only options are acceleration, speed, drag&drop threshold, cursor size, enable highlighting with CTRL, left/right handed and the delay between the single clicks to get it recognized as a double click. I played around with the latter but it does not solve anything.

By the way, also the right mouse button is affected.
