I've got no problems with saving the settings.
My opinion:
- REALLY GOOD LOOKING (especially with Anti Aliased fonts).
- Its usability is better
- Not really as fast as the older GNOME
- I'm not really pleased with the option of not being able to change window manager however I hvae read that this option will come in the next release.

(note: I did not compile it by myself as AxeZ. I got it with my Mandrale 9.0)

I haven't used the gnome2 desktop, but I'm currently running a bundle of gtk+2.0 apps. I really like gtk+2.0, all my apps look slick and such.

I dunno about running gnome in general, its just bloated.

Who said you can't change the Window manager? Try using the GConf editor...

More help on Gnome can be found here: http://gnomesupport.org/forums/
