Gnome 2.2 window effects... how do I get rid of them?

Hey all.

I have just started trying out Gnome 2.2. One little detail that bugs me is the black-line window effects that occur whenever you maximize or minimize a window. If you are starting an application, the black lines expand out to the edges of the screen, even if your application window is not maximized. It looks terrible, and I can't seem to find a setting anywhere in the menus...

Any ideas?

Thanks
