Gnome 2.2 vs KDE 3.1

Which is best for the newbie?

Easier to use, more powerful, more flexable, less buggy, etc?:newbie:

Try them both, see what you like best.
They are both easy to use, both powerfull, both flexable etc...
Sometimes kde runs faster then gnome on a box or vice versa, but you'll have to try them both to find out :).

Well, not to start a preference war or anything, but as a relative newbie I like kde 3.1 (although i have had one problem with it starting today). I like the interface a little bit better, and some of the included items in kde. It seems a little more versatile to me from what I've seen. I really like the konqueror browser, and it handles anti-aliasing so much better than mozilla. From what others have said, konqueror is also faster.

downside - kde has been reported to be slower than gnome, but you can always change that by reducing the gui effects.

I only use gnome when I have a problem in kde (which may say something about gnome's relability, but i also don't mess with gnome).

I guess the best advice is to just try them out and see what you like. It's a matter of preference.

newbie GUI

When I first installed Linux I tried both Gnome and KDE several times. I got KDE working first.

I now am set up so that when I log in I have the option of starting bash, Gnome, or KDE. This arrangement becomes especially handy when I upgrade Gnome or KDE. I do the upgrade from the stable GUI.

Blackbox.

I don't understand questions like this - my distros don't, of course, but almost every full distro comes with both - why ask? Use. Decide.

After you've decided, if you want have a little fun with a preference war... well, that I'd understand. :D

I"m a huge fan of KDE, never even look at gnome, only install it for the apps.
