gmplayer or mplayer with custom keys

Does anyone know if it is possible to get mplayer or gmplayer working with customized keys? By customied keys I mean that a user (such as myself) could define the open file action to be set to the key "O", fast-forward set to "F", etc.

Read the man page.
Search for the -input command.

My ~/.mplayer/input.conf file contains, among other things:
RIGHT seek +2
LEFT seek -2
DOWN seek -30
UP seek +30
