Gmplayer: empty player menus!

If I configure the newest cvs version of mplayer with GUI and the --language=hu parameter on SuSE 9.1, then all menuitems that contain accented, Hungarian characters become completely invisible in the menus of the compiled gmplayer.
This means that almost all gmplayer menuitems become invisible, and the Hungarian version of the GUI player is totally unusable.

Could you give me a hint what causes this error? (It rather seems to be another SuSE specific error, as I never get this error e.g. on Debian-based distros)
