Put it somewhere in your $PATH.

The standard place for additional software is /usr/local. 'make intsall' (as root) should install it here. Or you could create a package and use rpm to install it. Or put it in ~/bin. It's your system, put it wherever you want.

Add what? /usr/local/bin/ should already be in your path (use 'echo $PATH' to see). If not, edit your shell config file (you're probably using bash, so that'd be ~/.bashrc), and add it in somewhere (e.g. PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin or PATH=$PATH:~/bin etc).
