GLIBC_2.3.4 not defined in file libc.so.6 when running gnuplot

Hello,

I just installed Fedora Core 2. After upgrading gnuplot to version 4 (using rpm), when trying to run it,I got:

gnuplot: relocation error: gnuplot: symbol __sprintf_chk, version GLIBC_2.3.4 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

Any leads/ideas?

Thanks!

What version of glibc do you have on your system? Most likely the rpm was built on a system that had glibc-2.3.4 and needs that version to work.

If that is the case, check to see if there is an upgrade for FC2 or if you can't find one compile glibc-2.3.4 -

NOTE: if you don't know how to compile and install glibc then i don't recommend the latter suggestion. There is a possibility that if done incorrectly you could hose your system.

hi,

i have FC2. the output of
strings /lib/libc.so.6 | grep GLIB

is:

GLIBC_2.0
GLIBC_2.1
GLIBC_2.1.1
GLIBC_2.1.2
GLIBC_2.1.3
GLIBC_2.2
GLIBC_2.2.1
GLIBC_2.2.2
GLIBC_2.2.3
GLIBC_2.2.4
GLIBC_2.2.6
GLIBC_2.3
GLIBC_2.3.2
GLIBC_2.3.3
GLIBC_2.3.4
GLIBC_PRIVATE

so i have glibc 2.3.4.... isn't that right?

thankx for your help!

symbols are functions, I'm just guessing on this but perhaps the host machine this was compiled on had a different version of glibc (not in number like 2.3.4 but maybe different patches which altered the __sprintf_chk function). As far as what to do?

Umm...

I guess you could try to compile it if you have all of the -devel packages you need or try searching around the net for a different package that was compiled on your specific distro.
