glibc 6:2.3.2 needed for iconv 2.3.2 ... ":"???

hey all, i'm trying to install mythtv on my redhat 9 distro, and while journeying down the rediculous trail of dependancies now like 8 miles long, i'm trying to install iconv-2.3.2-14.i686.rpm, and it says that it requires "glibc 6:2.3.2", i've installed "glibc 2.3.2-74 ... what the heck is that 6 & colon? has anyone else seen theis before, or can point me in the right direction of what it is? i'm a redhat newb, been playing w/ it for a few years, but am definitely not pro ... thanx for any help!

It's an reference to the version of the library libc.so.6.

Try to check if the ldconfig is pointing to the right library:

# ldconfig -p | grep libc.so

if doesn't just run ldconfig to make it right.

Hi everyone I am having the same exact problem i get the message:

glibc = 6:2.3.2 is needed by iconv-2.3.2-15

when in fact i hae glibc 2.3.2 installed =>
rpm -q glibc
glibc-2.3.2-27.9.7

As you see above i do have it installed!!!

i did what you suggested by typing ldconfig and trying again but that didn't resolve the problem.

please help............very desperate!
