Question glibc 2.4 or later

Dear Members,

I am using MEPIS 6.5 glibc version 2.3. I need to install glibc version 2.4 or above for I use NCAR Graphics and NCL languages and they require glibc_2.4. Can you help me how to install it? If I install it from source, when I try to launch NCL it continues to give the same error that glibc2.4 is absent.

Thank you in advance,

Ekin

What is NCL? Is it Numerical Control Language by NCCS? If it is, is it the current release? It must be recent or it would use an older library.
thanks

hi,
i hope when you installed from source you put the glibc in an alternate place like /opt or if you used the default in /usr/local that is ok too.
glibc is a bit dangerous to mess with as it contains main programs like ldd the dynamic library loader and whatnot
so make sure you never overwrite your original in /usr.

i think the best way to make sure your program uses the new library is to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH like this
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH = /path/to/new/glibc:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
then launch the program from the shell you set this way.

if you have further problems tell us the configure options you used to compile your alternate glibc
