glib config environment variable

error I see others have gotten. Those threads took a different turn however, so I didn't learn.

"If glib was installed in pREFIX,, make sure PREFIX/bin is in your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the full path of glib config"

I wonder, if that last bit means edit the make file...I have glib >= 1.2.2.
But how do I find the path to it? I could probably do that but my searches so far haven't. And, I know what my path is now, but what is PREFIX?

Thankyou
