I cannot install glib and the gtk + packages.. Idownloaded the tar files from the location and then fallow the instructions...

what can I do the files are in my home directory

why are you trying to build gtk+ from source? 1) a prebuilt gtk+ is on your distro cd's 2) It's probably already installed on your system 3) you probably want gtk2 instead anyway.
You need to install the development packages as well. Anyway why not just install xmms using urpmi? To find out more about urpmi, go to zebulon.org.uk and for instructions on setting it up go to easyurpmi.
