glib 2.4.8 showing as 2.0.6?

ok, so, as i try to install this thingie, it asks for glib 2.4.0 or higher, so i install the newest version of glib i can find - 2.4.8. i go back to install the original program, and it says something about checking for glib 2.4.0 or higher, and it returning as 2.4.8 installed. it then goes on to say GLIB (2.0.6) was found and it is best to remove it, HOW???

It helps if you mention which distro you are using in your post or in your profile and how exactly you installed the newer version of glib.

you installed it to a different prefix than what it originally came with ( the system supplied libs).
remove it, reinstall it to /usr and don't forget to make an rpm package of your build ( intstall the rpm, not "make install".

to remove things compiled from source go back to the source directory and do "make uninstall" ( note that not all builds support this which is why it is always a good idea to make packages ( also, if you make a package, in this case specifically an rpm, it updates the rpm database with what you installed which will help you avoid dependencies later when installing other rpm's that depend on whatever you installed from source)

there is more than one way to make an rpm, the best would be to learning the rpm system. If you want quick and dirty, look into checkinstall. to use it, do your ./configure <options>, make, and instead of make install, do checkinstall and follow the prompts.
