gkrellm plugins

Has anyone else installed the media and misc plugins for gkrellm via rpm?
I am running redhat 7.2. Got the latest of all plugins and gkrellm itself, and it all installes, but when I enable plugins, say, xmms, or weahter, the skin goes default, the uptime goes to zero, and the plugin works for about a minute, then disappears.
I am wondering if anyone else had this experience, or if not, what may be palying a role in it.
This is also both on KDE 2.2 and Gnome.

Try downloading the plugins you want in .tar.gz format, compile them and then copy them to ~/.gkrellm/plugins.
