gkrellm not running

I am using Fluxbox 1.0rc2 and I am trying to get gkrellm running. When I type 'gkrellm' or 'gkrellm -w' in a terminal, nothing happens. The window doesn't come up and it prints nothing to the console and I have to press Ctrl+C to close it. How can I fix this?

This may be completely out of left field, but are you running an iptables firewall?

I ask, because I once wrote some custom iptables rules which were actually so strict they kept connections to and from the local system from communicating with each other. I would never have noticed this if it wasn't for the fact that gkrellm would do exactly what you are seeing, not draw it's GUI, but not give me an error either. I found that as soon as I flushed the iptables rules, it started normally. I was then able to figure out it was my firewall that was actually causing gkrellm to fail.

Not sure about that myself. Contact the developer and see what input he has. Or idea to try. Sounds like to me you are missing a libriary or something. Try installing the latest source file. Refer to docs like readme ond install to see the requirements.

Post answer if you get it fixed.

Amazing! You're right, it was my firewall. I added a rule to allow traffic on the loopback interface and it works now. Thanks!
