GKrellM Error.....?
 

Whenever I try to run GKrellm, and some similar programs, I get this error:

What does it mean? How do I fix it?

In other words (not a complete list of the missing information in your post):

1) What distribution are you using (please update your profile and fill in the "Distribution" field, so we don't have to keep asking, and you don't have to keep telling us);

2) What version of GKrellM?

3) What "similar programs" are you referring to (are there similar programs to GKrellm? OK I guess (Super)Karamba would be considered similar)?

4) What DE/WM are you trying to run this under?

5) How did you install the program?

From a Google search containing the keywords of this error (if you read German, you can read the only hit for the exact error, but I can't, so I didn't), I wound up looking at the GKrellM changelog, which had an interesting note:

Are you perhaps running more than one instance of GKrellM? Check your System Monitor and see if perhaps there is a crashed invisible process running that should be ended or killed; if so, end or kill as necessary, then try running the program again.

Slackware 10.0

2) What version of GKrellM?
The newest one. lol, sorry, I'm not sure, but its very new.

Superkaramba works, thankfully. Other ones that don't work include gftp, gnomeICU

4) What DE/WM are you trying to run this under?
KDE

5) How did you install the program?
I installed it from the package that came with my distribution.

Nope :( I tried 'killall -9 gkrellm' and then running it again, and it didn't work.


Any other ideas as to what the problem could be? I would greatly appreciate any other help you could offer

Do you have GNOME (or at least libgnome) installed? There is no particular "similarity" between GKrellM, gftp and gnomeICU other than that they are GTK+ programs (GNOME programs, thus).

Of course SuperKaramba works, it's a KDE program (notice the prominent "K" in Karamba? It's a clue, just like the "G" prominently placed in the programs you name). Just like KDE programs run under any other WM or DE would need at minimum the QT libraries and at least the kdelibs package to be installed, so GTK/GNOME programs usually need the gtk+ libraries and libgnome package to be installed for them to run.

So the first thing I would do is check that. If you do in fact have those packages installed, then we can look further for what might be obscure but nonetheless common to 3 such disparate programs.

Yup, I have those library packages installed, including gnome :) But I'm still getting this type of error:

gkrellm: relocation error: gkrellm: undefined symbol: gdk_threads_lock

Does it run under GNOME (since you have GNOME installed)? It would be good to know if this is a problem with GKrellM globally, or only when you try to run it under KDE.

I did xwmconfig, and tried to log into gnome, but it gave me the exact same error, mentioning libgnomecanvas-2.so, which I removed, and reinstalled, but still, I'm getting the same problem? what could this mean?
