Exclamation gjiten install problem. Help!

I was installing gjiten from source. After "./configure" I got the following error:

checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for pkg-config... yes
checking for GNOME Platform... GNOME 2.x
checking for pkg-config... (cached) /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for pkg-config... yes
checking for libgnome-2.0 libgnomeui-2.0... Package libgnome-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgnome-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libgnome-2.0' found

configure: error: Library requirements (libgnome-2.0 libgnomeui-2.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

The full ./configure message was like this:

I'm sure that I have both the library. By the way how do I change PKG_CONFIG_PATH. Where is it? And when I tried to echo the path with "echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH", nothing come out, only blank space. On the hand, my pkg-config also can't find the gtk-2.0 path and looking for ".pc" extension file. What is file with .pc extension? Help???? I want to have the dictionary on my system. I'm using RedHat 8.0, kernel 2.4.22.

Install the development packages for the missing dependencies mentioned, i.ie libgnome-devel-version and libgnomeui-devel-version.
